[Okay, so, Jake accidentally hit a few buttons, so have fun watching what looks like John Egbert having a hard time with an overly affectionate Emolga. At least, it's only for a few seconds. It kind of cuts out to text when he falls down on the ground.]

I think they're always excited to meet their new partner. It's the start of a journey for you both, after all. Usually they'll calm down after you start traveling and battling though.

Newly caught Pokémon are usually less excited. At least until they get used to being with you.

Also, this isn't any kind of a dream.

If it doesn't stop, try putting it back to its pokéball. That usually calms them down.

Yeah. It's good to remember the option though.

The next city is Cherrygrove. You go to Route 29 and follow it straight for three days or so. There should be a paper version of the map in you bag as well, though.
