CHARACTER NAME: Jake English
SERIES: Homestuck
CANON POINT: After realizing he's talking to the Dirk Strider of his mind
APPEARANCE: boop
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Steam Gunner
Jake is a guy who normally wields twin pistols. Since there isn't a class like that listed, the Steam Gunner is the next best choice for him.
PERSONALITY: Jake is mostly cheerful and outgoing. He loves to explore, ruins especially, and having various adventures is what life is all about to him. He seems to always be in a rush, more so when he's excited about something. Then again, it might also be because he procrastinates a bit, such as with the rabbit project that needs to get to Jade and John in their Beta Universe. When the day to finally send the blasted thing comes, he finds that he doesn't have enough uranium to send it, and even asks his mysterious alien friend if he can put it off a bit longer (which he can't).
Let's talk about his relationship with his friends for a little bit. He dearly loves and trusts his friends, appreciating that he has good ones to support him and keep him grounded. Jake's trust in them might seem naive to an outsider, but he has never had any reason to suspect them of falsehood when it's time to get into a serious discussion. For example, he believes Dirk when he tells Jake about what happens in four centuries because that's the time Dirk is living in. Jake says that he has no reason to not believe Dirk, who is his best friend.
He actually knows his friends almost scarily well. According to one such panel, he knows them so well that his subconscious can make almost exact recreations of them in his Dream Bubble. It's seen only with Dirk, but it's not a far stretch to assume that he knows Roxy and Jane just as well.
Now, he does, of course, have his flaws. Consciously, Jake is horrendously oblivious. As an example, when Jane denies she has romantic inclinations to him and starts beating herself up over saying something like that, he takes it all at face-value and assumes that she really doesn't have any feelings like that to him. It's obvious to the audience by her text that this is not the case, especially when she starts typing words in all caps, but Jake is simply oblivious to it. His subconscious knows that she's upset and why, but consciously it's like he refuses to admit it.
Another flaw of his is that he has quirky romantic feelings to some people. He meets a dead dream spider girl for all of three seconds and says that he might have found the girl of his dreams. It's most likely a harmless crush, despite the exasperated way the Dirk of his subconscious talks about it.
Jake is mostly like everyone else, though. He's almost literally an open book with his emotions. He gets frustrated, perhaps more so with Dirk's elusiveness; he gets sad; he gets angry. Just like everyone else in the world. It's just that most people can see these emotions either in his text or just by his expressions. Jake doesn't hide anything like certain Striders, at least as far as the audience is aware of. For all intents and purposes, he's a likable dork who appears to be able to make friends pretty easily. His word usage is a little odd (the absolute best example is this directly from the comic: Nor am i a quaint man of the past. Pardon me but do i SOUND like some trollycar bellwether toiling in the heart of the mustache belt from the ruff n tumble year of nineteen aught nine???), but it seems to be endearing to his friends.

FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE:
[It's very disconcerting when one moment you're talking to a figment of your imagination and then suddenly being somewhere else entirely. Jake stands there dumbly for a moment, quite confused at what just happened. He gets over it long enough to get out of the way of the whatever behind him, since there seems to be a bit of traffic here!]
Oh for the love of Christ, now what?
[Dammit, he had been in a somewhat important discussion with the Dirk from his memory! Oh, well. First thing to do is to gather information, so he approaches the first friendly person he sees.]
Excuse me, chap! Might I have a word? [He will continue on regardless of the answer. Jake is determined to get information, gosh darn it!]
I think I've gotten myself lost or something. [Jake chuckles a little sheepishly.] This place certainly doesn't look familiar to me, and it seems that my original clothes have been, erm, replaced. Is that normal around here?
THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:
Jake was as cheerful as ever that day. He had finally gotten enough money to get a decent supply of healing items plus a scroll that could teach him Repth. He knew full well that he couldn't replace a Harvest Cleric, but he'd do in a pinch at least. Plus, if his party happened to be a fully offensive party, it would be smarter to learn the healing spell to save items.
"These scrolls are about as expensive as weapons," he muttered to himself. It was just a good thing for him that he was like a crow or magpie when it came to storing his money in the bank. Like hell was he going to lose everything he had earned from all that dungeoning to some random PKer who decided that they didn't like Jake's face or something ridonkulous like that.
Inventory full of items he needed and Repth successfully learned, Jake made his merry way over to the Chaos Gate, taking the steps leading toward it two at a time in his excitement. Earlier, he had been invited into a party. Jake had no idea who they were, but they seemed friendly enough and his instincts weren't telling him to not go with them. Besides, he couldn't say no to exploring an Area he had never been to before. If Jake remembered right, they weren't using words that he had. That meant even more Areas for him to explore from his ever-expanding word bank!
"Hello! I hope I haven't kept everyone waiting with my dillydallying at the shops!" Jake told the party members with a grin. He didn't think he was terribly late. After all, it would be ungentlemanly of him to arrive tardy. But Jake could be wrong. It happened.
