Timezone: EST
Current Characters in Route: N/A
Character
Name: Jake English
Series: Homestuck
Timeline: After getting knocked out a second time by crashing into his ruined house
Canon Resource Links: Homestuck, Jake English
Personality: Jake is mostly cheerful and outgoing. He loves to explore, ruins especially, and having various adventures is what life is all about to him. He seems to always be in a rush, more so when he's excited about something. Then again, it might also be because he procrastinates a bit, such as with the rabbit project that needs to get to Jade and John in their Beta Universe. When the day to finally send the blasted thing comes, he finds that he doesn't have enough uranium to send it, and even asks his mysterious alien friend if he can put it off a bit longer (which he can't).
Let's talk about his relationship with his friends for a little bit. He dearly loves and trusts his friends, appreciating that he has good ones to support him and keep him grounded. Jake's trust in them might seem naive to an outsider, but he has never had any reason to suspect them of falsehood when it's time to get into a serious discussion. For example, he believes Dirk when he tells Jake about what happens in four centuries because that's the time Dirk is living in. Jake says that he has no reason to not believe Dirk, who is his best friend.
He actually knows his friends almost scarily well. According to one such panel, he knows them so well that his subconscious can make almost exact recreations of them in his Dream Bubble. It's seen only with Dirk, but it's not a far stretch to assume that he knows Roxy and Jane just as well.
Now, he does, of course, have his flaws. Consciously, Jake is horrendously oblivious. As an example, when Jane denies she has romantic inclinations to him and starts beating herself up over saying something like that, he takes it all at face-value and assumes that she really doesn't have any feelings like that to him. It's obvious to the audience by her text that this is not the case, especially when she starts typing words in all caps, but Jake is simply oblivious to it. His subconscious knows that she's upset and why, but consciously it's like he refuses to admit it. One could speculate that he doesn't know how to handle a situation like that, and chooses ignorance over any other action in an attempt to not make the situation worse. Jake cares a lot about his friends, and the last thing he wants is to hurt them.
It's also possible that he's shy, a remark that Dave made when Jake first meets the troll group in a Dream Bubble. To be fair, Dave may have a point. Jake most likely isn't used to dealing with more than one person at a time, since he has grown up on an island all by himself for most of his life. He is more than talkative when it was just him and Mind Dirk or him and Aranea. Throughout the entire discussion and general craziness of this meeting, he's unusually silent, except to hush up the Mind Dirk.
He has a bit of a nasty habit of not looking before leaping. The best example of this is when he tries to beat the crap out of Meenah, thinking that she is the younger version of the Condesce, who wipes out almost all of human society (the only humans alive being Dirk and Roxy). Mind Dirk even tells him that this isn't the case and that Meenah is basically from a pre-Scratch universe. Does Jake listen? No, but that gives his subconscious an excuse to be all "I told you so" at him.
Jake is mostly like everyone else, though. He's almost literally an open book with his emotions. He gets frustrated, perhaps more so with Dirk's elusiveness; he gets sad; he gets angry. Just like everyone else in the world. It's just that most people can see these emotions either in his text or just by his expressions. Jake doesn't hide anything like certain Striders, at least as far as the audience is aware of. For all intents and purposes, he's a likable dork who appears to be able to make friends pretty easily. His word usage is a little odd (the absolute best example is this directly from the comic: Nor am i a quaint man of the past. Pardon me but do i SOUND like some trollycar bellwether toiling in the heart of the mustache belt from the ruff n tumble year of nineteen aught nine???), but it seems to be endearing to his friends. He makes mistakes just like everyone else, though whether he learns from them or not is up to him.
Now, after all of that, there's still a bit more to talk about! It's been mentioned already that he has grown up almost all by himself on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean somewhere. Well, he used to live with his Grandma, until she was murdered by the Condesce early in his life. Jake doesn't really know much about who she is as a person because she died too early for him to have a chance. After making contact with Jade and learning about Sburb's possibilities of allowing him to get to know his grandmother in her youth, he jumps at the chance. For him, it's not just about adventures in a different universe, it's mostly about finally bonding with his Grandma, or some version of her. He doesn't seem to remember much about his grandmother, but he certainly remembers having to burn her body so that the monsters on the island wouldn't eat her. Jake has experienced death and loss firsthand at a young age, and it's hard to tell what this might have done to his psyche.
Living alone on an island that tries to kill you can certainly be "adventurous." However, it's also stiflingly lonely. Due to this, it can be speculated that Jake will have a very difficult time in letting go of his friends because they're literally his only form of human contact. Dirk has made a mention of this when he sent over Brobot as a 13th birthday present for Jake. Interestingly, Jake sidesteps the concern his friend expresses and changes the subject. It's very highly possible that Dirk struck close to home with his statement, but he either doesn't want to admit it, refuses to talk about it, or both. It may well be a thought that bothers Jake as well and doesn't like dwelling on it. Regardless, he doesn't want to do anything that may endanger his friendship with them. They're far too important in his life, and perhaps a way to keep him sane.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Jake more or less knows how to survive in hostile conditions. He also knows how to use firearms and generally has a good grasp of how to maintain/build various machines. He's very friendly and fairly outgoing.
Also he's...pretty bad at being skeptical. He also has a peanut allergy. Deadly allergic to those dratted things, considering that's how his dream self died. Nasty way to go. Jake's also pretty shy when in a big group of people, and might be unusually quiet in those instances.
Jake's preeeetty adventurous, so he'll probably be exploring a lot of the setting. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how lost or deep in trouble he gets.
Oh, and his whole Page of Hope powers? Unknown at the moment. Though it might not even matter for the purpose of this game.

Erm.
I would like to pose a question to all those who are veterans at this sort of thing.
This is rather embarrassing to put it mildly. *Blush*
No point in beating around the bush i suppose.
Well ive kind of sort of ah.
Misplaced.
One of my pokemon.
I took my eyes off of her for a second and now i cant FIND the scoundrel!
Shes just so tiny that its hard to keep track of her and she darn well knows it!
Its enough to ship a fella off to the asylum.
...Right so my question to you pokemon veterans.
How in the everfrigging world do you keep track of your joltiks when theyre outside the pokeball?
Theyre so tiny its almost unbelievable!
Third Person Sample:
This had to be the most surreal thing that had happened to Jake after being knocked unconscious by landing, once again, on his head from a considerable height. It was right up there with meeting mind Dirk. He absently rubbed the spot on his head that he landed on, wincing slightly. Jeez, he was lucky to have had the skulltop and a rather hard head! Jake did not necessarily want to think about what would have happened if he had not been so fortunate. He sighed as he glanced over at his new adventuring partner.
"I'm not sure a flying squirrel would've been my first choice, but I won't complain. I'll just have to think of a suitable name for you!" He grinned at the Emolga flying alongside him, who smiled cheerfully back. "I wonder what gender you are."
Jake took the Pokemon in his hands and examined it. He frowned, not seeing anything that could help him out. Releasing it to hover around him, he decided to check his Pokedex to see if it had any information on how to tell the difference between a male and female Emolga. It...provided him with absolutely no help on the subject. Fantastic.
"Dag nab it! I'll have to take my best guess." That was going to be fun. He really hoped he got the gender correct. Jake took a few minutes to think and sometimes stare at his Pokemon. Eventually, he came to a decision.
"I'll say that you're...male. Is that correct, my friend?" The Emolga was not strictly paying attention, so Jake took that as a yes. "How about...Robin Williams? Yes, that's a good name for you, I think! He's an excellent actor and comedian, so it's perfect!"
He grinned, triumphant at finally giving a good name to his new friend. Robin Williams seemed to like its name, too! Maybe the whole Pokemon journey thing would turn out just fine. Though, if this was a dream bubble, then he should consider a way to wake up so that he could help his friends get into the game....
Well, Jake would just have to cross that bridge when he got there. For now, he was going to enjoy being in the world of Pokemon. It was an adventure into a new world, after all, and Jake simply could not turn down such an opportunity.
